It seemed only natural for Dr. David Sausner to continue the eye care legacy established by his well respected, and affable father, Bernard Sausner, O.D. For the past 35 years, Dr. Sausner has developed a practice committed to surpassing a patient’s needs and does so by surrounding himself with a strong team dedicated to a premium and personal eye care experience.
After graduating from The New England College of Optometry in 1986, and as a raised Massapequan, Dr. David Sausner returned to his hometown to join the family practice. Seeing the changes occurring in optometry he seized the opportunity to advance the practice into a medical optometric model. Dr. Sausner updated the office and continued his education, ultimately receiving licensure for the highest level of optometric medical practice in New York; allowing him to diagnose and treat ocular disease with topical medications.
Dr. Sausner was invited to become a laser correction affiliate when laser correction was introduced in 1994 and co-manages both laser correction and cataract surgery. Dr Sausner also and has special interests in dry eye diagnosis and treatment and complicated contact lens fittings. His expertise in challenging contact lens fittings has resulted in his participation as a key opinion leader for contact lens manufacturers.
The doctor has been involved with a local optometric society and has served as a leader on their executive board. While the practice continues to expand on the medical side, ‘Dr. David” has not forgotten his roots in optometry and can often be seen helping in the office’s designer optical boutique. Dr. Sausner’s easy going and friendly demeanor make all who visit feel like old friends. In his free time Dr. Sausner enjoys time with his family as well as the waters of the south shore and local golf courses.
Dr. Karagiannakis fell in love with optometry while working with patients in an optical boutique throughout high school. “Dr. Maria” graduated, with honors; from St. John’s University and went on to attend the SUNY College of Optometry in Manhattan.
While enjoying the experiences and education offered in Manhattan, Dr. Maria was eager to return to her native Long Island.
Dr. Karagiannakis’ experience included time at the Northport VA Medical Center where she worked in a multi-disciplinary environment; honing her abilities in treating all levels of eye care challenges.
Dr. Karagiannakis is licensed to practice optometry to the fullest capacity allowed by NY State and has special interests in pediatric eye care, ocular (eye) disease, and complex contact lens fittings
One visit with “Dr, Maria” has patients feeling like members of her big Greek family making for a great Park Eye Center experience.
